The Twist: Are you overcomplicating it?
January 21, 2025 | A Weekly Coaching Newsletter
Have you noticed that sometimes we like to make things complicated?
Over the weekend, I unearthed the box I had kept with my Grandma’s yarn, crochet patterns, and hooks. She beautifully crafted projects, but despite several attempts, I’ve never had much success with knitting or crocheting. However, with the weather forecast saying “beyond frigid,” I decided to give it another try.
It didn’t take long before I noticed myself getting ahead of the process. I was looking for a new pattern, researching different yarn options, and making the whole thing way more complicated than it needed to be.
But then I remembered one of my favorite questions: “What if this were easy?”
Oh right! That means I could simply take the yarn I have, try out this free pattern, and see what happens without getting lost in all the other possibilities.
While my scarf project is far from perfect, that little question shifted my entire approach. I’ve been having fun doing a few rows each day and challenging myself to keep it simple.
Where in your life are you making things more complicated than they need to be?
What is the next small step you could take today to move forward without getting ahead of yourself or making things harder than necessary?
