What rule is blocking your joy?
The Twist | a quick reframing, coach spotlights, and a fun giveaway
Some insight and sparks came from my reading this week: an excerpt from “The Happiness Files” and a chapter of “The Grieving Brain.” Both explore how what we do, and what we believe, impact how we feel.
In coaching and in my own life, I notice how often we make things harder than they need to be. A study cited in “The Grieving Brain” found that when bereaved people chose activities they considered fun or happy, their mood improved. It seems obvious, right?
Yet many of us carry unwritten rules that we “should” be having a hard time or that we “shouldn’t” feel happy yet. This isn’t just about grief. I see it with clients all the time. If the quiet story underneath is “building a business should be hard” or “my life should look different by now,” it becomes tough to allow ease and joy in the process.
So here’s a gentle invitation: What unwritten rule is getting in the way of your happiness, ease, joy, or delight this week?
This comes up in the pursuit of any goal, and we’ll be working with it inside our next 100-day project cohort this fall too. Registration opens August 20. Want details or a quick chat to see if it's a fit? Reply to this email and we’ll find a time to connect.
More good stuff
One of my favorite parts of coaching is cheering on clients and peers. I also love connecting you with helpful resources, so here are a few programs from coaches I trust:
• Coach Rebecca Olson helps working moms thrive. Her Ambitious & Balanced program is enrolling now.
• Coach Michelle Keil's Drawn to Grace blends creativity and nervous-system care. Enrollment opens Friday.
• Coach Rebecca Barnheart’s Embody program for coaches continues to impress me. I’m a coach in the program AND I’m learning a ton myself. Want more info? Reply here, or reach out to Rebecca and let her know I sent you.
💌 I'm still giving away gifts!
I’m celebrating turning 50 this past January by giving away 50 gifts this year. The gift changes each week. To enter, just hit reply and include your mailing address so I can send you something fun.
Have a great week,
Kari
